Data Sanitization Service
Through our advanced Software-Based Data Erasure and Physical Destruction services, Universal guarantees irreversible data sanitization, backed by fully validated, audit-ready data destruction reports for third-party compliance verification.
Data erasure is a logical sanitization method that utilizes specialized software overwriting to replace addressable locations on a storage media. Unlike physical destruction, the hardware remains fully intact and operational post-erasure.
- Absolute Data Elimination: Cutting-edge erasure technology ensure that 100% of the data in the device is completely eradicated.
- Maximizing Asset Residual Value: Sanitized hardware can be safely reallocated for employee buyback programs, corporate donations, or remarketing—extending the asset lifespan and driving carbon reduction.

The DoD 5220 standard has been formally deprecated by the U.S. Department of Defense and superseded by NIST 800-88 as the definitive data destruction guideline. The critical flaw is that DoD 5220 lacks operational guidelines for next-generation solid-state architectures (such as NVMe SSDs). Applying this legacy standard to SSDs may results in incomplete logical erasure, while degrading the lifespan and performance of the drive through unnecessary erasure/overwriting cycles. To guarantee complete, media-specific sanitization, Universal ITAD strongly recommend adopting NIST 800 or IEEE 2883 standards.
- Standard Formatting (High Risk): Standard formatting merely deletes the file "directory indexes". The actual data remains entirely intact across the sectors and can be effortlessly retrieved using commercially available data recovery software, exposing your organization to severe breach risks.
-
Professional Data Erasure (Fully Secure): In strict alignment with NIST 800-88 or IEEE 2883 standards, professional sanitization software overwrites the entire addressable storage capacity multiple times to ensures that the data is unrecoverable, generating a verifiable audit trail to fulfill regulatory compliance obligations.

Physical destruction refers to the irrecoverable decommissioning of storage media through mechanical and physical means, such as degaussing, hydraulic piercing/bending, or crushing/ shredding. This process renders the media permanently unreadable and unusable, fulfilling the highest standards of data elimination.
- Rapid & High-Volume Processing: Swiftly and securely destroys the internal storage platters or chips within the devices.
- Visually Verifiable Results: Provides physical proof that can be audited instantly.
- Universal Media Compatibility: Highly adaptable for a wide array of storage media.
*Note: To counter sophisticated, laboratory-level forensic data recovery techniques targeting residual media fragments, global standards highly recommend a dual-method approach—combining software-based data erasure or degaussing with mechanical physical shredding to achieve absolute data defense.

Following ISO/IEC 21964 standards, Universal ITAD Solutions provides various destruction methods tailored to different media substrates. For mechanical hard drives, we offer high-coercivity degaussing, hydraulic piercing/bending, or customized particle fragmentation to meet rigid organizational security requirements. Compliance is categorized into 6 material classifications and 7 distinct security levels based on the post-destruction particle size. Universal ITAD Solutions delivers high-security processing up to Security Level 4 across key categories:
〔O〕Optical Media: CD/DVD 〔T〕Magnetic Media: Tape/Credit Card 〔H〕Magnetic Hard Drives: HDD 〔E〕Electronic Data Carriers: SSD/USB
